Sweater | Shirt | Pajama Pants | Ruffled Romper | Bow Headband
Sweatpants, wine and cooking with a chatty baby on my hip. That’s how we will most likely spend our Valentine’s Day night this year. Since we are transplants here in Kansas City, we don’t have any family or friends to watch Claire in order to go out and have a date night. However, a night hanging around cooking a delicious (most likely Italian) meal with a bottle of wine sounds really nice. Maybe I’ll even get in a hot bath and finish that book I was reading the night I went into labor? Really getting crazy over here….
I feel like there’s always a lot of pressure to do something fabulous and “Instagram worthy” on these holidays, especially Valentine’s Day. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a good night out at the latest fancy restaurant and getting all dressed up for a romantic date night. And if our parents said they would fly in next week just to give us a night to ourselves, I wouldn’t say no. But where I would have been disappointed in prior years if we weren’t going out to celebrate, I’m content now to stay at home with my little family and celebrate together. There’s just something about that little peanut face that I love and want to be around all the time – even if she’s spitting up all over my nice Valentine’s Day sweater.
I think most of us make sure our baby is dressed to the nines before we even think about ourselves. Anyone else? Claire is so lucky because the Monica + Andy team sent her this adorable ruffled romper to wear in celebration of the day! We love shopping there for her clothes and accessories because all their fabrics are certified organic making them super soft, and they have the most fun limited edition prints (we also have this is the croissant print!). We’re also supporting a startup business created and run by a supermom!
My sweater would literally make the most perfect V-Day outfit no matter if you’re staying in or going out (also love this). And it comes in a kid size for your mini me! It’s super cozy, and warm and has hearts <3! I also love this ruffle shoulder shirt for that fun pop of red (comes in maternity, too!). I’m all about the three C’s these days (comfy, cozy, and casual) with being a mom, so this is likely exactly what I will wear on Valentine’s Day. At times I do miss getting a little dressed up and throwing on a nice top, but I will be back there again soon. All I keep hearing from fellow moms is how fast it all goes, so I am trying to be more present and just soak up this time with Claire. Before I know it, she will be heading to kindergarten and leaving me to make her own friends (I’m not crying, you’re crying!). That’s a long way off, but you get the point.
Anyway, if you’re a new mom with the same exact plans, or you’re just celebrating Galentine’s Day (nod to my Parks & Rec fans) at home with a few girlfriends – cheers to you. Let’s have the holiday be focused on self love and not exclusively romantic love. Who’s with me?!
